Korea Film Commissions & Industry Network

Dear filmmakers,

As the president of the Korea Film Commissions & Industry Network I want to welcome you to the Film Korea website, the gateway to production and location services in Korea.

The Korean film industry is not only Asia’s leading film industry but is also becoming a global player in terms of audiovisual content production and export. The international success of movies like Old Boy, Poetry, Train to Busan, or most recently Parasite speak for the talent, the creativity, and the high production values that are available in the country. Directors of great renown like Bong Joon-ho, Park Chan-wook, Kim Ji-woon, or Na Hong-jin- to name a few - are supported by an abundance of word-class film professional crew and technicians. A variety of studios and outdoor film sets, post-production facilities, and highly advanced CGI and visual effects studios are the backbone of Korea’s vital film industry.

Korea’s breathtaking and diverse locations found on international screens are one of the key drivers in establishing the Korean film industry as one of the largest in the world. From numerous Southeast Asian movies, TV series, documentaries to Hollywood blockbusters such as Avengers: The Age of Ultron, Black Panther and the Netflix series Sense8, many productions have chosen Korea as the filming site for its attractive locations.

As a highly urbanized country, Korea offers all kinds of locations, be it Korean traditional or ultra-modern architecture, breathtaking traffic infrastructure, or solemn mountain peaks. The dynamic cityscape of Seoul, the capital, contrasts the traditional Korean architecture in cities like Jeonju or Gyeongju. Bustling harbour cities like Busan and Incheon have their own distinct flair. Sleepy little fishing towns and mountain villages, sandy beaches, rocky cliffs, and even sub-tropic volcanic islands can all be reached within one to two hours from Seoul. Rice paddies and tea fields, mountains covered in lush forest, rocky cliffs, and pristine valleys and countless islands nestled off the south and west coast of the peninsula are all seasoned with the four distinct aesthetics of spring, summer, fall, and winter.
With all my heart I would like to invite you, international filmmakers, to have a look at this hidden jewel and to discover the beauty of Korean locations and the advantages of Korean production infrastructure. We will support you with all the resources and capabilities that we and all our member film commissions and industry institutions can offer. August, 2020
